On Monday afternoon, a trailer truck overturned on the interchange known as the Puente de la Concordia, located in the Iztapalapa borough on the east side of Mexico City, causing significant traffic disruptions on one of the capital's main roads. The incident occurred around 14:25 local time when the heavy unit lost control on the curve connecting to Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza, heading towards Calzada Ermita Iztapalapa. Authorities recommended that motorists take alternative routes, such as Avenida Texcoco or the Federal Highway Mexico-Puebla, while the removal of the trailer continues. As of the press time, no injuries had been reported as a result of the accident, although authorities remained on the scene to monitor the situation and continue with the maneuvers. Due to the weight of its cargo—approximately 20 tons of fabrics—and the shape of the curve, the trailer ended up on its right side, impacting the retaining wall. Following the overturn, emergency services, such as the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) and Civil Protection elements, arrived at the scene to cordon off the area and coordinate the necessary maneuvers to remove the unit and clear the road. The interchange was closed in both directions, which generated heavy traffic and congestion in the area, affecting both those heading towards the Mexico-Puebla Highway and those traveling on Calzada Zaragoza. The Puente de la Concordia is a critical point for heavy traffic in the east of Mexico City, especially due to its geometry with pronounced curves and slopes that present challenges for truck drivers. This is not the first time a serious accident has occurred on this stretch. In September 2025, a gas truck overturned and exploded on this same bridge, causing a major disaster that left more than 30 people dead and dozens injured, in addition to significant material damage. That precedent is still fresh in the memory of residents and drivers in the area, as each new incident revives concern for the safety of the routes connecting the east of Mexico City with the State of Mexico. Emergency services are working at the scene.
